Week 3 began with combining the resulting paired programs from the Agile project set in week 2. The students had produced some fantastic programs, all with different features and functions. We combined these programs to provide a final product for the customer. The resulting program was tidy, (no spaghetti code!), outputs were creative and efficient. The code combined If statements, loops, functions, use of colour and GUI. Enthusiasm and concentration filled the room and before we knew it the day had flown by; and doesn’t time fly when you’re having fun!
Day 2 of week 3 we started finding our creative inspiration for HTML. The students learnt about using tags, div, body, header, main, footer; creating a layout for a webpage. We moved to add the ‘creative’ bits to create the colours and positioning of the div’s within the webpage. A rainbow of coloured pages began to develop with all students learning how to use Hex colours and float right/left.
On the soft skills side, our journey continued this week with completing the #IamRemarkable course. This is a coaching course from Google which strives to empower women and under represented groups to speak openly about their accomplishments in the workplace and beyond, thereby breaking modesty norms and glass ceilings. The program is taught in 80 countries now with over 75,000 participants. It’s a great way to build up confidence and allows us to talk about our achievements – which is an essential skill in the workplace. We’re planning to try out our new skill on each other every week creating a supportive environment where we champion each other’s achievements.
